Cake Pops

And so, it was a rainy and miserable Tuesday. And when I say miserable, I just mean the weather, because the day itself was a good one!

I suppose the most interesting part of today was my lunch. A few weeks back I had been asked by a woman in the admissions office if I would have lunch with a transfer student and his father. The student was interested in the Psychology program and I'm the only Student Ambassador who is a Psych major. So the family was wondering if they could meet with me over lunch in the dining hall to talk about the program and get a student's take on things. I won't deny the fact that I was incredibly nervous to do so. Giving a tour one on one with a family is one thing, but sitting down at a table with no escape with me not just listing off a rehearsed skit. I tried to look at it in the sense that they were still there to listen to what I had to say and to listen to my take on the program, so that helped me collect myself. Overall the lunch was a complete success. The student and his dad seemed very enthusiastic about the school and made sure to tell me that they appreciated my time and to thank me for some great information. It was very nice. I liked it even more because I made a direct impact on this student's view of Champlain coming in as a transfer student, which must be so much more difficult than coming in as a freshman.

During Rhetoric I received some GREAT news...Miss. Morgan Manfredi got into USM!! She had been waiting for the past few days to hear whether or not she would be accepted to the University of Southern Maine, and so she did! We had planned earlier in the day that if she heard back, whether it was good news or bad news, that we would head downtown to Starbuck's for celebratory Cake Pops! For those of you who don't know what Cake Pops are, you should get your butt down to a Starbucks and indulge. They may be for a limited time only because they were put out for Starbuck's 40th Anniversary, so get there fast!

Not only did we get Cake Pops, but Andrew and I splurged on sweets at Starbucks. I believe our order consisted of two tall Carmel Apple Spice beverages, a slice of pumpkin bread, one red velvet whoppie pie, one peanut butter and chocolate cupcake, two birthday cake-cake pops, and one rocky road cake pop. It totaled to about $17...which didn't surprise me in the least. Starbucks is damn expensive! I threw a lot of money out the window, but it was a celebration! Morgan is going to go off and do great things at USM. She'll also be closer to home, closer to Margarita's (her second home), and all for a cheaper price than here in VT. She will miss it and we will miss her, but there's never really a goodbye and we can always visit one another! By the way, Nick looks thrilled in the photo below.

After our mini celebration, we strolled around the mall and just enjoyed the evening. While we were walking around the mall, Andrew suddenly stopped dead. He had been joking around with Nick, but in a split second his face lifted and a HUGE smile crept across his face. Want to know why? O.A.R was playing in the mall. I don't think he could have been more excited. Though it was hailing by the time we headed back to the dorm, it was a fantastic evening and money well spent though it made a decent dent in my bank account. Church St. at night is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Even though it is Spring, they have yet to take down the Christmas lights from the trees that line Church St. and I hope they never do because it's stunning. It is also very peaceful late at night since all the shops are closing down.

At the end of the day, I was happy. It concluded with wrapping birthday presents I had picked up for Alec at the mall and watching the Amityville Horror with Andrew. I've seen it before, but not for a while and it scared me just as much as it had before. Andrew practically jumped off of the bed a few times and our hearts couldn't have been racing any faster than they were. We spent some time afterward talking about summer and all the things we could do. We're thinking about seeing the Blue Man Group in Boston and seeing Ray LaMontagne in VT as a weekend trip. O.A.R is definitely on the list of things we must do. We'll have a packed summer if we work it all out. It's all up in the air as of right now, it will certainly add up money-wise, but I suppose we will see in a few weeks where we stand. Hopefully we can do it all! Besides, I like to pay for his tickets...
